If your request hasn’t been altered during transit, the HMAC values supplied in the request and the one calculated by the service should be the same . If this isn’t the case, a 401 is sent as response . If these two HMAC values are the same, you don’t immediately accept the request. You do an additional check on the age of the request to make sure requests don’t get replayed at a later time. If the Date header is missing, you immediately return with a 401 . If the header is present, you check the time difference between the received date and the current time. If this is larger than 15 minutes, you return with a 401 indicating that the request has expired; if everything is okay, you return null , which tells CXF to continue processing the request.
